e-Medicine: a great new way to communicate with your doctor
Would you like to use the convenience of email to communicate with your doctor? If so, ask your family physician if he or she participates in our new e-Medicine program. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida and its HMO subsidiary, Health Options, are proud to be the first insurer in Florida to offer comprehensive e–Medicine services.

If your doctor has signed up for the online consultation program, you can safely and confidentially communicate with him or her about non-urgent health care needs. In addition, you can schedule, reschedule or cancel appointments, request prescription refills, request referrals and receive normal lab test results—all through the Internet.

Security measures are in place to protect your privacy when using this time-saving service. So go ahead! Ask your doctor about e–Medicine from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida.

New self-service capability added
Our new voice recognition system now gives you access by phone to the same self-service capabilities available on the web, such as claim status and benefit information. In addition, the new system provides faster, more accurate call routing. Call the Customer Service number on your member ID card to register for a Personal Identification Number (PIN) so you can begin using this new tool today.

Show new ID cards to providers
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida and its HMO subsidiary, Health Options, are issuing members new health plan identification numbers when their policies renew. Your new number, called a Health Care Contract Identifier (HCCID), is unique and replaces your Social Security number on your ID card. All numbers will be replaced by Dec. 31, 2005.

Your Social Security number will no longer be used to verify benefits or process claims once you receive your new ID number. Therefore, please be sure to show your physician, pharmacy or other provider your new member ID card.

Newly enrolled members automatically receive an HCCID number. If you are newly enrolled or have changed plans and are seeking medical or pharmacy services before your ID card arrives, please contact Customer Service to obtain your new member number.
