The number one killer of women is heart disease. Most women believe that cancer is their biggest health threat. But nearly twice as many American women die of heart disease and stroke than of all forms of cancer combined.
One in 10 women ages 45 to 64 already has some form of heart disease
over age 65, that figure jumps to one in four. Women with diabetes, high blood
pressure, or high blood cholesterol are especially prone to heart attack.
Exercising regularly, eating a low-fat diet, maintaining a healthy weight,
and not smoking are all heart-smart strategies. To find out how to
lower your risk for heart disease, see our article, Heart to Heart.
