With regular Pap tests, cervical cancer is nearly 100 percent preventable.

Many older women don’t realize that they have the highest risk of developing cervical cancer and still need to get Pap tests. The average age of women who are diagnosed with cervical cancer is between 50 and 55 years old.

The number of deaths from breast cancer in the United States has declined steadily since 1996. This may be partly because more women are receiving mammograms.

For women ages 50 to 69, regular mammograms can reduce mortality from breast cancer by as much as 30 percent. For more information about exams that can help protect women from cancer, click here.
