About 23 percent of Dean
Health Plan members smoke
cigarettes or use other tobacco
products. Tobacco cessation is
one of the most important things a
person can do to improve health.
But tobacco is a very tough addiction
to beat. And while some tobacco
users can stop “cold turkey,”
most can’t. That’s why Dean Health
Plan will offer help to those members
who are ready to give up
tobacco in 2002.
The 2002 Tobacco Cessation
Program is available to all tobacco using
Dean Health Plan members
not already covered by a tobacco
cessation program. Members
already covered include Medicaid/BadgerCare and State and Federal
employees. The program will provide
three different counseling
opportunities. Members who use
counseling may receive coverage
for Zyban as well.
If you would like to break your
tobacco addiction, please call
Dean/St. Marys HealthWorks at
1-800-368-5596 and sign up for one
of two different SmokeStoppers
counseling approaches, including
group sessions and programs
through the Internet. Dean Health
Plan will contribute $50 toward the
cost of any of these programs. You
can also call the Wisconsin Quit
Line at 1-877-270-7867, a telephone-based
counseling program that is
free of charge.
The highest quitting success
rates are seen in those who use
both counseling and medication
to stop using tobacco. Dean Health
Plan will provide up to two months
of coverage for Zyban at a $10 per
month copayment for those who
select one of the counseling options
above. This coverage is available
regardless of your drug benefit.
Dean/St. Marys Health Works
will notify Customer Service to
provide coverage for Zyban for
two months for those using Smoke
Stoppers, but you must see your
physician for a Zyban prescription.
If you opt to use the Wisconsin
Quit Line, please call Customer
Service at 1-800-279-1301 to make
Zyban available to you. You will
need a prescription from your
doctor to receive Zyban.
