Dean Health Plan Update

Important Information About
the Women’s Health and Cancer Rights Act

The federal government passed legislation mandating specific coverage for health plan members who choose to have breast reconstruction surgery after a mastectomy.

This legislation is called the Women’s Health and Cancer Rights Act of 1998. For many years, Dean Health Plan has provided coverage for breast reconstruction after a mastectomy and related services. This legislation allows for:

  • Reconstruction of the breast on which a mastectomy has been performed
  • Surgery and reconstruction for the other breast to produce a symmetrical appearance
  • Prostheses
  • Care for physical complications during all stages of mastectomy, including lymphedema

Your health insurance policy through Dean Health Plan already complies with this act. If you have any questions about the Women’s Health and Cancer Rights Act of 1998 or about your benefits, please call the Dean Health Plan Customer Service Department at 608-828-1301 or toll-free at 800-279-1301. Our Customer Service hours are Monday through Thursday, from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Friday, from 8 a.m to 4:30 p.m.
