Are you planning a summer vacation?
If you are, you may be traveling to a
different state or even out of the country. Do you know what to do
if you need health care services while you are out of the Dean Health Plan service area? Call Customer Service
to find out, or check your Schedule of Benefits.
You can also call our Customer Service Department to find out if you have a copayment for emergency or urgent care visits or if you are responsible for any other liabilities while out of the service area. You should also check to see if you need to return to the service area for any follow-up or routine care. Follow-up care outside of the service area requires prior authorization.
Get the Care You Need
When you need emergency or urgent care, see the nearest available health care provider, even if you are outside of our service area. (See our related article.) If you need help deciding how to get the best treatment, call Dean On Call at 1-800-54-NURSE. Dean On Call is our nurse line and is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
If You Receive Out-of-Area Care
When you receive health care in or out of the service area, show your ID card to the provider. The provider can send us the claim at the address listed on the back. Sometimes a provider who is not part of our plan will charge you at the time of service. If this happens, get an itemized bill before you leave the doctor’s office. Send the bill and proof of payment to us, and we will reimburse you up to the maximum allowable fee.
After your emergency or urgent care visit, call Customer Service at 1-800-279-1301 or 1-608-828-1301 by the next business day to notify us of your care. We can answer questions about your benefits and out-of-area emergency services. If you call outside normal business hours (7:30 A.M. to 6 P.M., Monday through Thursday, and Friday, 8 A.M. to 4:30 P.M.), leave a message on our confidential voice mail. Include where and when you were seen and for what illness or injury you were treated.
So bring your ID card and enjoy your vacation. We’ve got you covered.
