Like
many people, maybe you feel frustrated trying
to change a bad habit. Sometimes people fail to
change habits because they focus on the “wrong”
reasons for changing.
For example, perhaps you’ve tried
to exercise regularly, but never stuck with it.
Maybe you focused on exercising only as a way
to lose weight.
Instead, try thinking about how
exercise, or any change in habits, relates to
what you value most in life — such as independence,
grandkids, being around for your family or the
hobbies you enjoy.
List your values and prioritize
them. For exercise, focus on how it will help
you stay limber and mobile. Think about how it
will give you energy to play with your grandkids.
Exercise will improve your health, making it more
likely that you’ll be with your family for years.
Thinking about exercise — or any new habit — in
relation to your values may help you change.
Post your list of values on your
refrigerator or on your mirror to help keep you
on track.
