When it’s time to see a doctor, how long should you expect to wait before getting an appointment? Your primary care physician (PCP) must arrange 24-hour access to medically necessary care. When on vacation or ill, the doctor also must arrange for coverage by another PCP. Some offices include medical professionals such as physician assistants and/or nurse practitioners to expedite your care. When you call for an appointment, provide a detailed description of your symptoms or why you need an appointment so that they can schedule the most urgent cases first.
