Changes in Medicare Deductibles Expected
Medicare deductibles and copayments are expected to increase for 2001. Except for any Part B premium increases you must pay, our Medicare supplement policies will automatically cover the rise in costs.

Proposed changes beginning Jan. 1, 2001:

  • The Part A deductible you pay before Medicare begins to pay your hospital charges is expected to increase from $776 to $792.
  • The copayment for extended hospital stays is expected to increase from $194 to $198 per day for days 61 through 90 and from $388 to $396 for days 91 through 150.
  • The copayment for stays in a skilled nursing facility is expected to increase from $97 to $99 per day for days 21 through 100.
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida offers a wide range of health care policies for Medicare beneficiaries. In addition to one of five standardized Medicare supplement policies offered statewide, Medicare beneficiaries can choose one of our Advantage65 Select policies.

Advantage65 Select provides significant premium reductions for those who agree to use our large, quality network of independent contracting doctors and/or hospitals. Our popular Advantage65 “Premier” Select policy gives you the freedom to choose your doctors. It’s available in 38 counties, covering South Florida, Jacksonville, Brevard County, Orlando, Tampa-St. Petersburg, Fort Myers, Fort Walton Beach, Pensacola and Panama City.
