women: have you had a mammogram?

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women, other than skin cancer, and it is the second leading cause of cancer death in women, after lung cancer.

image of a man and a womanFortunately, according to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer rates are going down—a decline that’s probably the result of detecting breast cancer earlier and improved treatment.

That’s why Medicare covers a screening mammogram for all female Medicare beneficiaries once every 12 months.

With the original Medicare plan, there is no Part B deductible charge, and you are responsible for 20 percent of the Medicare-approved amount —an amount your Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida Medicare supplement plan will cover.

Call your doctor. Schedule a mammogram today if it’s been more than a year since your last screening.
